The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has guidelines for determining visibility requirements for reflective safety vests worn by road crews, construction workers and others involved in situations where the visibility of a person is important in regards to safety. Safety vests are available in 4 main classes. ANSI Class 1, Class 2 Reflective Safety Vests, ANSI Class 3 Safety Vests and ANSI 207 visibility standards. Public Safety personnel can wear a modified version on the Class 2 vest which is the ANSI 207 visibility class. This standard allows for less background material in order to accommodate a shorter waist for access to medical belts for EMS personal and weapons access for Police.
