Surveyor Vests
Surveyor Vests - Multi-Pocket Hi-Vis for Field Work
Surveyor vests are built around one defining feature: pocket capacity. Where a standard construction vest might offer one or two simple pockets, surveyor vests are designed with multiple dedicated compartments for the documents, tools, and instruments that surveyors, field inspectors, project managers, and site supervisors carry throughout a workday — clipboards, tablets, measuring tools, pens, two-way radios, and paperwork all need a place that keeps them accessible without requiring a separate bag or tool belt.
Common features in this collection include large document pockets sized for clipboards or tablets, multiple smaller pen and tool pockets, radio/mic pockets with tabs, ID badge holders, and reinforced pocket seams to handle the added weight of carried items without premature tearing. Surveyor vests are available in both ANSI/ISEA 107 Class 2 (standard roadway and field visibility) and Class 3 (highway-speed or night work) certifications, in mesh and solid polyester, with two-tone contrast color options common in this category for added daytime visibility and reduced visible soiling.
Every certified vest in this collection carries the sewn-in ANSI/ISEA 107 label specifying standard, type, and class — verify this before relying on any vest for compliance purposes. Use the filters on this page to sort by ANSI class, pocket configuration, and brand.

Surveyor Vests — Frequently Asked Questions
The primary difference is pocket capacity and configuration. Standard hi-vis vests often have one or two simple pockets, while surveyor vests are built with multiple dedicated compartments specifically sized for documents, clipboards, tablets, measuring tools, pens, and radios. Surveyor vests also frequently feature reinforced pocket seams to withstand the added weight of carried items, and two-tone contrast color options are common in this category since field-heavy roles benefit from the soiling resistance that darker accent panels provide. Beyond pocket configuration, the ANSI visibility certification requirements (Class 2, Class 3) are identical to any other vest of the same class.
Many surveyor vests include a large rear or side pocket specifically sized for clipboards, and some are designed with tablet-compatible dimensions, but pocket sizing varies meaningfully between products and brands. Check the specific product's pocket dimensions against your device or clipboard size before ordering, particularly if you carry a larger tablet (10+ inch) or an oversized clipboard with a storage compartment, since not every "document pocket" is sized the same across different vest models.
No — ANSI/ISEA 107 certification is based on the vest's fluorescent background material and retroreflective tape area as manufactured, not on what you carry in the pockets during use. Pockets themselves don't reduce the certified visibility area as long as they're positioned and sized within the manufacturer's certified design. However, very bulky or overloaded pockets can physically distort the vest's fit and potentially shift or bunch the reflective tape during wear — keep pocket loads reasonable and check periodically that the vest still sits properly and the tape remains flat and visible.
For most general surveying and field inspection work away from high-speed traffic, Class 2 is the standard requirement. Surveyors working directly adjacent to highway-speed roadways (above 50 mph), conducting work in low-light or early morning/evening conditions, or working extended hours into dusk should consider Class 3 for the additional reflective coverage and arm-area visibility. If your survey work regularly takes you between different traffic environments throughout a single project, it may make practical sense to default to Class 3 rather than switching vests based on the specific site each day.
Standard surveyor vest pockets, whether mesh or solid polyester, are not waterproof and will not adequately protect paper documents during sustained rain. Look for vests with pockets specifically described as water-resistant or with storm flap covers if document protection in wet weather is a regular need. For genuinely reliable document protection, pairing your vest with a separate weatherproof document case or clipboard cover that fits inside the vest pocket is generally more effective than relying on the vest's fabric alone, especially for sustained or heavy rain exposure.
