Coveralls
Work Coveralls - Mechanic, Insulated & Zip-Front Styles
Coveralls are full one-piece garments covering the arms, legs, chest, and back in a single suit — protecting both the wearer and the clothing underneath from dirt, grease, sparks, and general wear. Unlike overalls (which cover only the legs with a bib and shoulder straps), coveralls provide complete upper and lower body coverage in one zip-, snap-, or button-front garment.
Work Coveralls — Mechanic, Insulated & Zip-Front Styles
Our coverall collection includes:
- Mechanic Coveralls — snug-fitting jumpsuits designed to avoid snagging on moving parts, with reinforced knees and multiple tool pockets (chest, waist, and often a dedicated leg utility pocket). Action-back pleating and side waist vents allow mobility and quick access to pants pockets underneath without fully unzipping.
- Zip-Front Coveralls — the most common closure style, offering quick on/off and adjustable ventilation. Available in long-sleeve (full arm coverage) and short-sleeve (cooler, for warm shop or seasonal conditions) versions.
- Insulated Coveralls — quilted synthetic insulation or heavy cotton duck construction for cold-weather and outdoor winter work, often with pass-through pockets that let you reach street clothes pockets underneath without removing layers.
- Lightweight & Disposable Coveralls — for warm shop environments, seasonal transition wear, or single-use/limited-use applications.
Fabric choice affects both comfort and durability: 100% cotton breathes better for long shifts and feels softer against the skin, while poly-cotton blends add wrinkle resistance and faster drying. Coverall sizing is based on chest, waist, and inseam measurements with extra room built in for layering — size up if you plan to wear bulky cold-weather layers underneath, and check for "tall" or "long-torso" options if you frequently bend, reach, or kneel throughout your shift.
Use the filters on this page to sort by closure style, sleeve length, insulation, and brand. For flame resistant coveralls certified to NFPA 70E and NFPA 2112, see our FR Coveralls collection — standard work coveralls do not provide arc flash or flash fire protection.

Work Coveralls — Frequently Asked Questions
Although the terms are often used interchangeably in casual speech, they describe different garments. Coveralls are full one-piece suits that cover the arms, legs, chest, and back — they zip, snap, or button up the front and provide complete body coverage in a single garment. Overalls cover the legs like pants but have only an attached bib and shoulder straps for the upper body, leaving the arms and much of the torso uncovered (typically worn over a shirt). Coveralls offer more complete protection from dirt, grease, and sparks; overalls offer more ventilation and easier on/off.
For mechanic work, prioritize a snug, non-baggy fit that won't snag on moving parts or machinery, reinforced knees for kneeling under vehicles, and multiple tool pockets — chest, waist, and a dedicated leg utility pocket are common. Action-back pleating adds shoulder mobility for reaching overhead or into engine bays. Covered zippers on chest pockets reduce the risk of scratching surfaces during close work. Poly-cotton blends are popular for mechanic coveralls since they resist staining and dry faster than 100% cotton when exposed to oil and grease, though some mechanics prefer the breathability of cotton for long shifts in a hot shop.
Insulated coveralls (quilted synthetic fill or heavy cotton duck) are the right choice for outdoor winter work or unheated shop environments where cold is a consistent factor. Non-insulated/lightweight coveralls (under 6 oz fabric weight) are better for warm shops, summer outdoor work, or as a protective layer over regular clothing where bulk insulation isn't needed. For transitional seasons with variable temperatures, many workers choose a midweight, non-insulated coverall and layer a hoodie or thermal shirt underneath as conditions change throughout the day, rather than committing to a fully insulated suit.
Coverall sizing is generally based on chest, waist, and inseam measurements, with extra room built in to accommodate layering underneath. If you plan to wear bulky cold-weather gear under your coveralls, consider sizing up from your standard measurements. Check for "tall" or "long-torso" options if you're above average height or frequently bend, reach, or kneel during your shift — a coverall that's too short will ride up uncomfortably and restrict movement. Try on coveralls and test typical work movements (squatting, reaching overhead, twisting) before committing to a size, and verify the hem doesn't drag on the ground or expose too much ankle when you reach upward.
Follow the manufacturer's care instructions on the garment label. As a general rule, avoid high heat during both washing and drying, since heat can shrink cotton-based fabrics and set grease stains more permanently into the fibers. Pre-treat heavy oil or grease stains with a degreasing pre-wash treatment before laundering, since standard detergent alone often isn't enough to fully remove automotive or industrial contaminants. Regularly inspect for weakened seams, damaged zippers, or thinning fabric at the knees and elbows — catching wear early allows for repair rather than replacement, extending the coverall's useful working life.
