Work Pants & Trousers - Carpenter, Cargo & Duck Canvas Styles
The right work pants come down to two things: fabric and feature set, matched to the task. Our collection spans the full range of workwear fabrics, each with distinct durability and comfort tradeoffs. Duck canvas (cotton duck) is the heaviest, most abrasion-resistant option — a tightly woven cotton fabric tough enough for concrete, framing, and rough material handling, though it's stiffer until broken in. Denim offers similar toughness with a softer break-in feel that improves with wear. Ripstop fabrics weave reinforced threads in a grid pattern that stops small tears from spreading into major blowouts, while staying lighter than canvas — a strong choice for warmer climates or jobs requiring more mobility. Twill is a lighter, smoother weave often used for uniform-style pants where a cleaner, more pressed appearance matters alongside durability.
Work Pants & Trousers — Carpenter, Cargo & Duck Canvas Styles
Beyond fabric, our pants are organized by feature set and intended use:
- Carpenter Pants — defined by tool-focused details: a signature hammer loop, multiple utility pockets, reinforced double-knee panels (often with knee pad inserts), and a relaxed fit that accommodates kneeling, bending, and reaching throughout the day.
- Cargo Pants — built around storage and organization, with large multi-compartment thigh pockets for tools, phones, and small parts. A looser, more relaxed fit than carpenter pants, popular with workers who prefer pocket storage over a tool belt.
- Double-Knee & Duck Canvas Work Pants — the heavy-duty standard for construction, demo, and welding work, with reinforced knees and triple-needle stitching at stress points for maximum durability against rough conditions.
- Dungarees & Work Trousers — traditional, classic-fit work pants for general industrial and trade use.
Use the filters on this page to sort by fabric, style, waist/inseam size, and brand. For flame resistant pants certified to NFPA 70E and NFPA 2112, see our FR Pants collection instead — standard work pants do not provide arc flash or flash fire protection.

Work Pants & Trousers — Frequently Asked Questions
Carpenter pants are built around rigid tool transport — a signature hammer loop, dedicated tool pockets sized for specific items, and reinforced double-knee panels for kneeling work. They're the standard for carpenters, framers, demo crews, and anyone kneeling or scraping against rough materials regularly.
Cargo pants prioritize flexible storage — large flap-style thigh pockets, often with layered compartments and zippers, designed for general gear and light tools rather than a fixed tool layout. Cargo pants tend to have a looser, more relaxed fit for ease of movement, and are favored by workers who don't wear a tool belt and want pocket storage instead.
Cotton duck canvas generally outperforms other fabrics on raw abrasion resistance — its tight weave holds up exceptionally well against concrete, rough lumber, and repeated friction from tool belts. Heavier canvas (10-13 oz) offers the best durability but is stiffer and takes longer to break in.
Ripstop fabric doesn't necessarily outlast canvas on sheer abrasion, but it excels at containing damage — its grid-reinforced weave stops small tears or snags from spreading into larger blowouts, which can extend usable life in tasks involving sharp edges, nails, or brush. Denim is comparably durable to canvas with a softer feel, while nylon and poly-blend fabrics offer good abrasion resistance at a lighter weight, with faster drying for wet or humid conditions.
It depends on the fabric and fit style. Heavier duck canvas and denim pants often run true to size or slightly large, since the stiffer fabric doesn't stretch. Some stretch-canvas or ripstop blends with added spandex run closer to a standard fit. If you plan to wear knee pads, layer thermal underwear in cold weather, or carry a loaded tool belt, sizing up — or choosing a relaxed-fit style — typically provides more comfortable range of motion. Always check the specific brand's size chart, as fit varies meaningfully between manufacturers and even between fabric weights within the same brand.
A gusseted crotch is an extra triangular or diamond-shaped piece of fabric sewn into the crotch seam, designed to reduce stress on that high-wear area and allow a wider range of motion when squatting, climbing, or reaching. It's a common feature in carpenter pants and other work pants intended for active, physical tasks, and it significantly reduces the likelihood of seam blowouts in that area compared to a standard flat-seam construction.
Wash in cold to warm water (check the care label, as heavier canvas may specify cold wash to minimize shrinkage) and avoid high-heat drying, which accelerates wear on stitching and can shrink cotton-based fabrics over multiple cycles. For pants exposed to grease, oil, or heavy soiling, pre-treat stains before washing rather than relying on the wash cycle alone. Inspect knees, pockets, and seams periodically; many work pants brands offer or recommend professional repair/reinforcement for high-wear areas rather than replacement, which can meaningfully extend the garment's working life.
