Parkas
Hi-Vis Reflective Parkas - Extended Coverage Winter Outerwear
Parkas extend to mid-thigh length or longer, providing significantly more body coverage than a bomber-style jacket — the tradeoff workers make is reduced freedom of movement in exchange for greater warmth and protection during extreme cold or extended periods of static or low-activity outdoor work. They're the preferred outer layer for flaggers, equipment operators, security personnel, and any role that involves standing still or sitting for long stretches in cold weather, where heat loss through the lower body and hips becomes a meaningful factor that a shorter jacket doesn't address.
Most parkas in this collection are ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R, Class 3 certified with 100% waterproof PU-coated polyester shells and sealed seams, built to handle sustained rain and snow exposure rather than brief showers. Insulation options range from standard quilted polyester fill to premium PrimaLoft synthetic insulation for high-warmth-to-weight performance, and several styles use a zip-out polar fleece liner that converts the parka into a lighter shell for milder days — the same 2-in-1 flexibility found in convertible bomber jackets, applied to the longer parka cut. X-back styles position the reflective tape in a crossed pattern across the back for improved visibility from multiple viewing angles, a configuration favored by traffic control and roadway crews.
The collection includes options from GSS, Pyramex, Occunomix, PortWest, Tough Duck, and Utility Pro, including cotton duck construction parkas rated to extreme low temperatures and Class 1 enhanced visibility cotton duck styles for less demanding visibility requirements. Use the filters to sort by ANSI class, insulation type, and closure style.

Hi-Vis Parkas — Frequently Asked Questions
Choose a parka when the work involves standing still or low-activity tasks in cold weather for extended periods — flagging, security, traffic control, equipment operation — where the longer coverage down to mid-thigh significantly reduces heat loss compared to a waist-length bomber. Choose a bomber jacket for active, high-mobility work where the shorter cut and elastic waist provide better freedom of movement and reduced bulk. Workers who alternate between active and static tasks sometimes keep both styles available and switch based on the day's primary activity. See the Bomber Jackets category for the shorter-cut alternative.
Standard quilted polyester fill insulation is effective and economical but tends to be bulkier for an equivalent level of warmth. PrimaLoft is a premium synthetic insulation technology engineered to mimic the warmth-to-weight performance of down while remaining water-resistant and maintaining loft (and therefore insulating ability) even when damp — a meaningful advantage in wet winter conditions where standard insulation can compress and lose effectiveness once wet. PrimaLoft parkas (such as the GSS 8501 and 8507 lines) typically command a higher price point but offer better performance for workers in consistently wet, cold environments.
X-back styling refers to reflective tape arranged in a crossed (X) pattern across the back of the garment rather than horizontal stripes alone. This configuration is designed to improve the wearer's visibility and silhouette recognition from a wider range of viewing angles, particularly important for roadway and traffic control crews who need to be identifiable to approaching drivers from multiple directions and distances. X-back is most common in Class 3 certified parkas intended for high-traffic-speed environments.
Cotton duck parkas (such as the Tough Duck S157-NVY and S457-BLK, made from 10 oz. 100% cotton duck with 6 oz. polyester insulation) offer a heavier, more rugged construction traditionally favored in industrial and outdoor trades for durability and abrasion resistance. They provide solid warmth through their insulation layer but are generally not waterproof in the way that PU-coated polyester shells are — cotton duck absorbs moisture rather than shedding it, which can add weight and reduce warmth if the garment becomes saturated. PU-coated polyester parkas are the better choice for consistently wet conditions, while cotton duck suits drier cold-weather environments where abrasion resistance and traditional workwear durability are higher priorities.
